Thrive By Design: Business and Marketing Strategy for Fashion, Jewelry and Creative Brands

I’m your host, Tracy Matthews, Chief Visionary Officer of Flourish & Thrive Academy. After 20+ years in the jewelry industry, I believe you deserve to make money doing what you love, without spending every waking minute doing it. I’ve built two jewelry businesses: one that totally flopped after years of stress and burnout, and then one that I built around MY desired lifestyle, which is still thriving to this day. Both were fueled by equal passion and dedication. The only difference is that I realized your business should be built around your lifestyle, not the other way around. I founded Flourish & Thrive Academy because it’s my mission to help independent jewelry designers and handmade product makers like you build a business that THRIVES in today’s market and aligns with what YOU want. Every week, I’m dedicated to demystifying the secrets of the jewelry industry and teaching you tips and strategies that are working now, so you don’t have to learn the hard way, like I did. My Desired Brand Effect Methodology has helped thousands of jewelry designers and makers build and scale businesses that create financial freedom in their lives. Building a business is a marathon, not a sprint, and you don’t have to do it alone. I’m so happy to be on this journey with you. You can subscribe to the show here and watch every episode on YouTube here. Follow us on Instagram @flourish_thrive or slide into my DMs @tracymatthewsny. And if you want to learn more about The Desired Brand Effect, I wrote a whole book about it! Read the first chapter for free here. Welcome to the #ThriveTribe, m’dear. I’m always dropping new resources, masterclasses, and opportunities for independent makers, so stay tuned!

Meet Anna Shilina — she’ll help you make more money!

At the end of the day we're all responsible for our own businesses, right?

And if you're not showing up for your business then you could be making excuses about why things aren't happening.

That’s when we have to take a look at ourselves, my friends!

Anna Shilina is an abundance coach that is ready to help you make more money.

She helps people remove money blocks and gets them to the space where they're really thinking strategically about what they're doing.

“We work on mindset, we work on the way you approach things, we work on really focusing on productivity and being in that space of your highest self so that you can get the most out of your efforts, the most out of your business, the most out of your growth.”

And she’s determined that we can all reach our biggest goals in 90 days (or less)!

The best time to start your goals was two months ago…

But the second best time to start your goals is today — as in right now!

U.S government employees just recently experienced a shut down on their money for about a month!

One of our SOS members said it was beyond stressful because people weren't getting paid at all.

People get paralyzed when something like that happens, so instead of making that time useful, they start freaking out.

With the fact that a regular source of income isn't coming in, I’d start to panic too.

But our member did something powerfully different.

She used that time to almost replace her six-figure a year of salary.

Anna has a few powerful tools to help you reach your money goals this year and years to come!

Big goals + Big responsibilities = Burnout? It doesn't have to!

Are you tired? Like really tired?

If you tell yourself “I’m busy but I’ve got this” then keep reading.

I sat down with Nina Cooper, founder of Nina Designs, on our show after reflecting on the last time I felt completely and utterly burned out.

I took a sabbatical last year for 6 weeks and went to Europe just for the mental break that I needed to rejigger and recharge.

And if I’d taken better care of myself, I might not have needed to do that.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a great 6 weeks… But how why I arrived at taking it was NOT healthy.

Let me ask… are YOU remembering to reset and recharge?

You can still continue growing your jewelry biz. But what if Nina and I showed you how you can do both?

We’re all capable of managing our time, energy, and stress.

In our latest podcast, Nina and I share loads of tips to recenter yourself among all of your creative chaos.

And we both agreed one of the greatest challenges of chasing a goal out of your comfort zone is getting there without burning out.

Good news… we’re gonna give you one less thing to worry about today!

Here are a few of tips for being the boss you want to be without depleting your energy.

I totally wish I talked to Nina before I burned out last year…

A lot of the advice I got was to “slow down and take it easy”. Which, when you’re as passionate about your biz as I am, really isn’t helpful.

I  learned how to treat myself better so my productivity doesn’t tank. Shoutout to Nina for helping me out with that!

Is your studio healthy or hazardous? Here’s how to create the jewelry you love while keeping your health in check.

Yep, I get it! You LOVE making jewelry.

But did you know this creative career could potentially be one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet?

Your subjecting yourself to chemicals on a daily basis…how do you know if your studio is safe!?!

I know I didn’t. I remember having a Shingles scare because of a rash that broke out while moving chemicals around my studio here in NYC several years ago.

One of our SOS coaches, Sarah McAleer, overcame a bought with Sepsis that was brought on by poor ventilation in her studio.

How much are we risking as jewelry makers?

Today, we’re talking about best practices to have an eco-friendly jewelry studio and take control of your health and safety.

I invited Christine Dhein on the show to talk about how to protect ourselves from the inherent hazards that come along with being a jeweler and working on the bench.

You don’t have to give up the creative career you love to stay healthy. You just need to follow some best practices for a healthy, eco-studio.

Christine is an author, a jeweler and a grant-winning educator… She is the founder of Green Jewelry News, the author of “The Eco-Jewelry Handbook.”

Let’s get your studio in tip top shape on today’s show! Listen to episode #188 How To Protect Yourself From Health Hazards In Your Jewelry Studio.

Have you heard the saying: Mo’ Money Mo’ Problems?

It’s the idea that your problems don’t go away when you have more money (or your business grows).

In business terms: Mo’ Money, Different Problems.

When my first company was growing, I used to throw money at problems. Uhh…bad idea.

All that did was make me broke because the money I was spending was NOT an investment in the growth of the company.

Trying to scale a business during an economic downturn with -$2.02 in the bank was interesting…but it was a gift.

You know what happened? I was forced to be creative.

Creative with cash flow. Creative with strategy. Creative with my time.

Using my creativity to problem solve, got me exposure on shows like American Idol, got me out of a pickle with QVC, and helped me land some of my biggest accounts, like the Sundance Catalog.

When you’re cash flow and resources are tight, you gotta be scrappy. And that’s where creativity comes in.

Your creativity is NOT just something you use to make beautiful jewelry. Your creativity your biggest asset to grow your business.

And since you’re always going to have business problems, it’s time to tap into your innate creative genius to solve them when they come up.

It starts with today’s episode on the Thrive by Design Podcast (it’s part of the visionary series I’m doing over at Creatives Rule the World): #187 Visionary Series: Tips to Creatively Solve Problems in Your Business.
